Explorer 8 – not that bad?

Author: ronnen  //  Category: Web News

It actually looks like the next release could be worthy of regular use when stacked up aggainst FireFox 3 and Google’s Chrome. Some of the new features Microsfot have on offer look fairly exciting, but the clincher that remains to be seen will be speed. MS IE 7 is notoriously slow and clunky for tabbed browsing and is last on my last when it comes to every-day browsing, but with the new features coming in v8, who knows? …still, i think i’ll hold off on installing the Beta until futher down the production cycle…

Some of the new features (from microsoft.com) include:

Accelerators

Now you can get more tasks done, more quickly on the web. Accelerators provide instant access to information like maps, web searches, translation, email, blogging, and more. Simply highlight a word or phrase on a page and discover a faster way to get the information you need.

Visual Search

Search is one of the most frequent and important things you do online. The new Internet Explorer 8 Search Box takes results to a whole new level by adding graphics and images to enrich your search.

Web Slices

Web Slices put you in control of the information you care about most. Now you can subscribe to specific content within a page and monitor things like auction items, sports scores, entertainment columns, weather reports, and more. Add a Web Slice to your Favorites bar and the information you care about will automatically be delivered to you.

New Tab Features

Tabbed browsing in Internet Explorer 8 just keeps getting better. The New Tab page loads quickly and lets you engage with a host of new features, such as opening previously closed tabs, or beginning an InPrivate session.

Tab Grouping

Tab Grouping makes it easier to stay organized while browsing multiple webpages. Tabs that are related now have the same visual representation and you can save time by closing a set of related tabs as a group instead of one at a time. You also can right-click on a tab to close tab groups, ungroup a single tab, or clone a tab.

Improved Search

When searching for information online it’s critical that you get the best results possible. With Internet Explorer 8, search also includes results from your local history and suggestions from your favorite search provider.

Find on Page

Searching for a keyword or phrase on a webpage is easier than ever. The Internet Explorer 8 Find on Page search feature highlights each instance of the keyword or phrase you’re looking for quick and easy discovery on a text-heavy page.

Automatic Crash Recovery

Website crashes are now isolated to individual tabs rather than entire browser windows, meaning when a site crashes on one tab, you don’t lose the rest. Internet Explorer 8 will automatically recover the lost tab once it has identified the problem. You can surf with peace of mind knowing that Internet Explorer 8 is the most reliable version of Internet Explorer available.

Author: ronnen  //  Category: Web News

A new version of Opera mini has launched, but sadly no news of a version released for Apple’s Iphone.Iphone/Ipod Touch users have been stuck with Safari as the only option for a while now and many can’t wait to try something new… The new features available on Opera’s latest release only make the annoying monopoly on Apple’s platform even more frustrating!

I would have thought Apple were the last guys who wanted to mimic Microsoft!

Some of Opera’s new features include:

  • Uploading and downloading files through Opera Mini and saving pages for offline viewing
  • Flash videos redirected to Android’s YouTube player
  • Double tap now works for zooming in and out
  • Inline URL entry instead of using native input
  • Password text entry now hides characters
  • Problems with exiting application when back button was pressed
  • Improved trackball speed
  • Internal pages, like the start page, now have font size extra large for easier navigation

EU could force Microsoft to bundle Firefox with Windows

Author: ronnen  //  Category: Web News

EU could force Microsoft to bundle Firefox with Windows

The European Commission could force Microsoft to bundle Firefox with future versions of Windows.

The revelation came as part of Microsoft’s quarterly filing with the Security and Exchange Commission. Among the statements is a clause outlining the penalties being considered by the European watchdog, which recently ruled that Microsoft is harming competition by bundling Internet Explorer with Windows.

The most interesting situation outlined in the filing would see either Microsoft or computer manufacturers forced to install Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari by default alongside Internet Explorer on new Windows-based PCs.

“While computer users and OEMs are already free to run any web browsing software on Windows, the Commission is considering ordering Microsoft and OEMs to obligate users to choose a particular browser when setting up a new PC,” the company reports in the filing.

“Such a remedy might include a requirement that OEMs distribute multiple browsers on new Windows-based PCs. We may also be required to disable certain unspecified Internet Explorer software code if a user chooses a competing browser.”

Non-compliance would see the EU impose a “significant fine based on sales of Windows operating systems in the European Union”, the filing further notes.

Microsoft has two months to respond to the charges, after which the EC will make its final ruling on the matter. The software company can also request a hearing and says it’s considering this alternative.

Should Microsoft be charged, the penalty could come into effect in time for the release of Windows 7, which is expected either later this year, or early 2010.

Effective Web Page Design

Author: Quikclicks  //  Category: Graphic Design, Web Design

Your web site represents you. The website design serves as the virtual representation of your company, and its services. When doing online business, people cannot see you physically like they could if you were an offline company. Hence, your customers and clients will perceive you by your website design. Having an effective website design will give you a distinctive advantage. A business website design or a corporate web design goes way ahead of a novice like web design. It is just like having an offline company with your salespersons wearing corporate attire when dealing with clients.

Similarly through a robust custom website design, you send out a message to the customers that you have high concerns for quality and you mean business. This works simply because first impressions, of your website design, matter. On the other hand, if you have a lousy website design, you are literally telling your clients that you do lousy service and have no regard for quality. With a professional website design, your clients will be very happy and interested. They will regard you for your professionalism and love to work with you or ship off their work to you, by just seeing your website design. It is always best to hire services of an established and credible website design firm. They not only provide web design solutions but will also address your specific requirements through their expertise in web design consulting.

The best part is web design services have really come down in costs in the last few years. Incase you want to have a brief idea of basic website design before hiring a website design company, here are a few tips. No Splash Pages: Splash pages usually have a “welcome” or “click here to enter” accompanied by an appealing picture. Though it’s the first page of your website design, most clients will move away for a website that gives direct access.. Minimum Banner Ads: Many website design firms put up a lot of advertisements as part of the internet marketing campaign. However, such website design looks very unprofessional and it better be kept to the bare minimum. Let your visitors decide when to buy. You’ll only lose them by pushing sales. Simple and Intuitive Navigation: Having an easy and intuitive navigation for your website design will help your visitors stay in control.

Remember that visitors don’t have much patience to deal with complicated website design. Sitemap: Put a sitemap in your web design so that visitors know which part of the site they are browsing. By doing so, they will be able to browse relevant information or navigate to any section of the site easily. A confusing website design will only send your visitors away. Shun the Looping Audio: When your visitors stay a long time at your site, reading your content, they will be annoyed by any audio looping on your website. Make sure that your website design is engaging and you’ll have loyal customers pushing you to glory.

Get more Website traffic – More hits = more sales!

Author: Quikclicks  //  Category: Online Marketing

For a website to be effective in getting you sales, it must be seen regularly by a large number of people. There’s no use creating a state-of-the art site supported by superlative web design if it does nothing more than sit dormant in virtual space until somebody types in your domain address. Which is why it is important when creating or updating your website, or revamping your marketing strategy, to consider ways by which to lead people to your site.

A highly effective method for increasing traffic is via an AdWords campaign, which brings up your ad whenever somebody types keywords relating to your business into Google. Best of all you only pay when your ad is clicked on, and you can set a maximum budget, making AdWords a cost-effective advertising solution.

Search Engine Optimisation can greatly increase your hit rate by bolstering your site’s ranking in search engine result listings. An email marketing campaign, with enticing prompts that direct readers to your site, is another viable option.

To get more traffic, more hits and more sales from your website, take a look at our two leading marketing strategies: Quikmail Email Marketing and Quiktraffic Google Adwords campaigns – Sydney’s leading web design and internet solutions company.

Increase your online credibility – and profit!

Author: Quikclicks  //  Category: Online Marketing, Web Design

The internet is increasingly becoming an essential medium for businesses to engage consumers and capture market share. But while virtually every business these days has a web presence, how many of them are actually getting positive results?

An effective website does more than provide information about the goods you’re selling or the service you’re providing: it speaks volumes about the professionalism, competence and credibility of your business. Let’s say, for example, that you visit a site that has attractive web design, engaging content and easy navigation. Your immediate response would be favourable, right? On the other hand, imagine that the site displayed sloppy, amateur web design and obscure content. What impression would you be left with about that particular business?

Creating a website which gets positive visitor responses is a fine art that requires broad expertise encompassing web design skills, understanding of consumer online behaviour, branding and communications.

Sydney web design agency, Quikclicks, can help your business achieve the online credibility that it rightly deserves and, above all, help you profit by capturing more of the market.
